MOSCOW. July 5 (Interfax-AVN) - The federal space agency Roscosmos has requested explanations from Space Adventures international company concerning reports claiming that places on Soyuz spaceships are already on sale for journeys to the Moon, Roscosmos spokesman Igor Panarin told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.
"After reports were circulated alleging that Space Adventures is selling tickets to the Moon, Roscosmos requested explanations from this company. We recently received a reply saying that this information has some inaccuracies. I am authorized to state that Space Adventures is not selling such tours now," he said.
Media reports claimed recently that Space Adventures had advertised tours round the Moon aboard the Russian spaceship Soyuz for $100 million each.
Space Adventures is an international company that organizes space tourism journeys to the International Space Station aboard Russia's Soyuz spaceships. Five space tourists have traveled to the ISS this way. The fifth space tourist, U.S. citizen of Hungarian origin Charles Simonyi, paid about $25 million for his trip.
