Ossetian peacekeepers report coming under Georgian fire in conflict zone

TSKHINVALI. Aug 9 (Interfax-AVN) - A South Ossetian peacekeeping checkpoint came under grenade fire from the Georgian side near the village of Dvani, the press service of the South Ossetian part of the Joint Control Commission has reported.

"A South Ossetian peacekeeping checkpoint of the Joint Peacekeeping Force in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone came under grenade fire, launched from a Georgian checkpoint near the village of Dvani," the press service said.

The fire also hit agricultural machinery in a field near the village of Mugut, it said.

"In another incident, several cows stepped on mines planted by the Georgian side on the outskirts of the Ossetian village of Ubiat in South Ossetia's Znaura district," the press service said in a posting on the South Ossetian government's website.
