SCO troops honing joint anti-terrorist skills

CHEBARKUL, Chelyabinsk region. Aug 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian and Chinese exercise commanders have reported to the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on the SCO joint anti-terrorist Peaceful Mission 2007 exercises being conducted at the Chebarkul training ground.

Col. Gen. Vladimir Moltenskoy, the Russian coordinator of the exercises, said that the final stage of the maneuvers focus on a joint special operation to search, isolate, pursue, disarm and eliminate a large imaginary terrorist group.

According to the exercises' scenario, the leadership of country A asked the SCO Council of leaders for military assistance. After receiving a mandate from the United Nations an operational command was formed, as well as a grouping of troops consisting of six combat units. The operational command team makes a joint decision to isolate the area of the planned combat actions and locate the gangs and terrorists groups, Moltenskoy said.
