TSKHINVALI. Aug 31 (Interfax-AVN) - South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity says that Georgia is planning a large-scale provocation in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict area.
"The situation in South Ossetia is extremely tense. We register constant provocations on the part of Georgia, aimed at discrediting Russia and Russian peacekeepers deployed in the conflict area. Georgia's main objective is to force Russia out of the region altogether and derail negotiations," Kokoity told Interfax-AVN on Friday.
Tbilisi preparing the so-called 'peace marches' in the conflict area in September.
"According to information available, there will be Georgian special forces officers among participants in the alleged 'peace marches'. We will not allow any marches on our territory, and I would like to emphasize that Georgia alone will bear the responsibility if the situation aggravates," Kokoity noted.
He believes that Georgia is attempting to disrupt the meeting of the Ossetian people to be held in Tskhinvali on September 17-18. "The meeting will be attended by representatives of Ossetian diasporas from 80 foreign states, who among other things will discuss the situation in South Ossetia," Kokoity said.
