GROZNY. Sept 13 (Interfax-AVN) - A former accomplice of Arab mercenary Abu Khavs has been apprehended in the town of Shali, Chechen Interior Minister Ruslan Alkhanov told Interfax on Thursday.
Khavs was killed on November 26, 2006.
A former accomplice of Akhmed Zakayev, who worked for the so-called 'security department of Ichkeria', surrendered to police in Urus-Martan, he said.
Another former militant, who lives in the village of Staroshchedrinskaya, surrendered to the police on Wednesday, Alkhanov said. The ex-militant said he had been hiding in Georgia and Azerbaijan for some time.
"Illegal armed unit member Zelimkhan Dzeitov, who took part in a raid on a police checkpoint on the Caucasus federal highway on July 19, was killed in the village of Assinovskaya on Wednesday as he offered resistance to police," the minister said.
A large cache containing arms and ammunition was found in Grozny. The cache belonged to 'Grozny emir' Musa Mutiyev, he said.
Mutiyev was killed on September 8, 2007, as he resisted arrest, Alkhanov said.
Meanwhile, Chechen police told Interfax-AVN about the detention of another militant in Shali. He was a member of the illegal group led by Jordanian mercenary Faris from 1997 through 2006.
