Russia increasing nuclear triad potential – MP

MOSCOW. Sept 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will continue to increase the potential of its strategic nuclear triad - the strategic rocket forces, the strategic naval nuclear forces and the strategic aviation, Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Viktor Zavarzin told German CSU members of parliament in Moscow on Wednesday.

Deputy State Duma Speaker Yuri Volkov alsi attended the meeting.

"This potential is slowly growing, alongside the perfection of our conventional forces," Zavarzin said.

The recent economic growth has allowed Russia to enlarge its defense expenditure. Most of the funds are spent on the modernization of the armed forces. "The larger financing has allowed military planning. We have swapped from one-year to three-year budgets," Zavarzin said.

"This extensive financing makes it possible to plan purchases of armaments with a long manufacturing period," he said.
