Terrorism in Russia down threefold in 2007 – FSB director

YEKATERINBURG. Sept 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The number of terrorist attacks in Russia in the first six months of 2007 was down threefold compared with the same period in 2006, according to Director of the Russian Federal Security Service Nikolai Patrushev

"The number of terrorist attacks has been significantly reduced. We can sum up the results of our work in the first half of 2007 and compare it to the same half in 2006. In 2007, there were 21 terrorist attacks in Russia, while the same half of 2006 saw 66 of them," he told journalists in Yekaterinburg on Friday.

In 2005, a total of 257 terrorist attacks were committed in Russia, in 2006 - 112. "The trend downward is continuing," he said.
