MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax-AVN) - A helicopter belonging to a forest protection service went missing in Russia's Magadan region, the Emergency Situations Ministry said.
"A Mil Mi-8 helicopter of the air service for forest protection that was en route from Simchan to Burgali landed in the vicinity of the Burgali river and asked the air traffic controller for permission to extend its stay on the ground, after which it made no radio contact," a ministry spokesman told Interfax-AVN.
A helicopter that went looking for the missing chopper found no trace of it, the spokesman said. He cited witnesses as saying they had heard the sound of a flying helicopter.
