YAKUTSK. Sept 17 (Interfax-AVN) - A monument to members of the White Army, which was opposed to the Bolsheviks during the 1918-1922 Russian Civil War, was unveiled in Yakutsk.
A black granite stele with a picture of white crown of thorns crossed by a sword was erected near the Economics and Law Institute building.
Andrei Vasilyev, the head of the institute, said at the unveiling ceremony that the younger generation should know history of their homeland from all viewpoints.
This is the first monument to White Army members in Yakutia. Until recently, the republic has had only monuments to Bolsheviks, one of whom, Yemelyan Yaroslavsky, is considered the initiator of the foundation of the Yakutia Republic in 1922.
