BAKU. Sept 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Azerbaijan and the U.S. signed a working military cooperation plan in Baku, the Azeri Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The document was signed by Azeri Defense Minister Safar Abiyev and Deputy Director of Strategy, Plans, and Policy of the U.S. European Command Headquarters Army Brig. Gen. William Mayville, who was on a visit to Baku.
Abiyev informed Mayville of the situation in the region and described Azeri-U.S. relations as strategic ones. Abiyev suggested that international organizations and countries interested in seeing the Armenian-Azeri conflict resolved should compel Yerevan to abandon its aggressive position.
Mayville said the problem is in the focus of the U.S. attention, and Washington is interested in the development of U.S.-Azeri cooperation as well.
