Georgia instigating war – Abkhaz leader

SUKHUMI. Sept 24 (Interfax-AVN) - An inspection by a joint commission to the site of a shootout in which two Abkhaz servicemen were killed has confirmed that the incident took place in Abkhazia, Sergei Bagapsh, the president of breakaway Abkhazia, told a news conference in Sukhumi on Monday.

"But some of the military observers tend to interpret the measurements made as evidence that the incident occurred in the territory temporarily controlled by Georgia," he said,

"Therefore, the UN mission must not travel to the site without being accompanied by Russian peacekeepers or our experts," Bagapsh said.

"The site of the incident has been clearly identified. Blood samples have been taken and dental tests have been carried out on the dead guys," he said.

"The wounded were clubbed, their teeth were knocked out. Then one of the wounded soldiers was bludgeoned to death and the other was shot in the head," the president said.

Abkhazia's law enforcement services have identified the Georgian commandos who attacked the Abkhaz border guards, he claimed.

"We'll do everything possible to have our soldiers being held hostage in Georgia released. We would prefer this to be done peacefully. But if peaceful methods do not work, we'll look for other ways and we'll find them, I assure you," he said.

Bagapsh confirmed that in the wake of the incident in the mountains "armored vehicles have been brought to the area, and all checkpoints have been reinforced in the Gali district along the Georgian-Abkhaz border."

"Georgia has moved additional forces to the border with Abkhazia in the Zugdidi district. According to our sources, Tbilisi is preparing a new 'blitz krieg.' We must be ready to repel a new aggression," said Bagapsh.
