Interfax-AVN plans to cover the following events on Thursday, October 4, 2007:
- The RKK Energia Rocket and Space Corporation, based in Korolyov outside Moscow, will host an official meeting devoted to the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Earth's first artificial satellite, at 9 a.m. Moscow time. The meeting is expected to be attended by officials from the Russian Federal Space Agency and the Moscow region administration.
- Russian Space Forces Commander Colonel General Popovkin and head of the Russian Federal Space Agency A. Perminov will lay flowers to the graves of S. Korolyov, Yu. Gagarin, and M. Nedelin in the Red Square at 10 a.m. Moscow time on the day of the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Earth's first artificial satellite.
- A memorial, devoted to the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Earth's first artificial satellite, will be opened in Korolyov outside Moscow at 11 a.m. Moscow time. The ceremony is expected to be attended by officials from the Russian Federal Space Agency and the Moscow region administration
- Russian Space Forces Commander Colonel General Popovkin will meet heads and veterans of space industry enterprises in the Russian Armed Forces Cultural Center on the day of the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Earth's first artificial satellite.
- An official meeting and a concert, devoted to the 50th anniversary of space exploration and the Space Forces Day, will start at the Rossiya Concert Hall at 5 p.m. Moscow time. The event is expected to be attended by Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov.
- Russian and Japanese border guard services are holding a joint exercise in the Japanese territorial waters. The exercise will last until October 6.
