Two militants eliminated in special operation in Makhachkala – official

MAKHACHKALA. Oct 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The special operation in Makhachkala is over and militants have been eliminated, Dagestani Interior Minister Adilgerei Magomedtagirov told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

"One militant was captured on Monday and two were killed in the special effort in Ordzhonikidze Street. The group had been murdering officials to get hold of government-issued weapons, which means that the militants are suffering from an acute shortage of money and arms. I believe we will do away with all of them soon," he said.

Senior spokesman for the Dagestani Interior Ministry Mark Tolchinsky told Interfax-AVN Monday night that two militants had been surrounded in Timiryazev Street. One of them, Zelimkhan Musayev, was captured while the other, Ullubi Balatkhanov, managed to escape.

Later Balatkhanov was surrounded in a house in Ordzhonikidze Street.

Tolchinsky said that in the process of capturing Musayev a special police officer was wounded in the shoulder.

A handgun was confiscated from the detainee that is believed to have been used to kill two police majors last week.
