MOSCOW. Oct 10 (Interfax-AVN) - France and Russia are moving closer on the Iranian issue, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said.
"We discussed the Iranian issue very thoroughly and we heard president Putin's analysis before his trip to Tehran. I think our positions are somewhat closer now," the French leader told a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.
As regards the Kosovo problem, Sarkozy said: "It seems to me that Europe must remain united, and we hope for a partnership with Russia."
"We understand that it is a matter for Europe itself, and we are trying to solve this problem in a way that humiliates no-one," the French president said.
The talks also focused on Syria and Lebanon and on the missile defense system, he said. "We talked about all this, and we encourage our Russian friends to continue talks with the U.S., we also discussed some economic issues," Sarkozy said.
