CHISINAU. Nov 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's mission in Moldova Louis O'Neill does not think the causes and consequences of the conflicts in Kosovo and Transdniestria are similar, and he argues that the pattern of the Kosovo settlement cannot be applied to Transdniestria.
O'Neill said in an interview with the Moldovan newspaper Timpul that each conflict has its specifics, history, roots and underlying problems: therefore, the settlement has its specific features in each case, he said.
The OSCE official welcomed Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin's latest initiatives to build confidence between Chisinau and Tiraspol.
The OSCE mission has established good contacts with all the parties involved in the 5+2 process [Moldova, Transdniestria, Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE , and the United States and the European Union]. Contacts have even been established with Tiraspol, although it is a very difficult process, the OSCE representative said.
