NATO head urges Georgia to continue dialog with opposition

TBILISI. Nov 29 (Interfax-AVN) - The European Union and NATO are interested in democratic presidential elections in Georgia on January 5, 2008, State Minister for European Integration Giorgi Baramidze said in comments on his recent visit to Brussels.

He was a member of the Georgian delegation led by Acting President Nino Burjanadze.

"The European Union has reaffirmed support to free and democratic elections in Georgia and voiced the readiness to send election observers," Baramidze said.

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer urged Burjanadze to continue consultations with the opposition.

"The NATO secretary general stressed the significance of that process for pre-election stability and a normal ballot in keeping with European standards," the minister said.
