KAZAN. Dec 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Over 2,000 police officers were prosecuted and convicted of various offenses related to professional misconduct, including bribery, in 2007, said Maj. Gen. Yury Draguntsov, the head of the Russian Interior Ministry's home security department.
"Among the most corrupted of law enforcement units, in my view, are the Road Safety Authority and migration agencies," Draguntsov told journalists in Kazan on Thursday before a workshop of home security units of the Volga Federal District interior ministries and departments.
"Yes, bribes are being taken and given, if there is a demand there will be a supply, which is why the eradication of corruption should start from raising legal awareness among people," the Russian home security chief said.
"Home security officers will not remain without a job for a long time," he said.
