Policeman’s car fired on in Ingushetia, his relative killed

MOSCOW/GROZNY. Jan 15 (Interfax-AVN) - A Hyundai car driven by a police officer came under gunfire in the village of Verkhniye Achaluki in the Ingushetia's Malgobek district, a source with law enforcement agencies told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

"Two out of three relatives of the police officer who were in the car were wounded. One of them died on the way to hospital. The gunmen managed to flee," the source said.

Meanwhile, a group of militants that were involved in a series of murders of policemen were killed in a special operation the Leninsky district of Grozny, Chechen Interior Minister Ruslan Alkhanov told Interfax-AVN.

"The leader of the illegal armed group was identified. This is Uvais Techiyev. He was put on the federal wanted list for murders of policemen and officers of other law enforcement agencies," the minister said.

According to Alkhanov, four militants, including one woman, were killed in the special operation.

An OMON officer was wounded in the operation, a source with law enforcement agencies told Interfax-AVN.

A grenade launcher, three assault rifles, a handgun, and ammunition were confiscated from the scene.

According to law enforcement agencies, a member of several illegal armed groups who was also a member of Techiyev's group from 1999 - 2000 was apprehended in the village of Belgatoi in Chechnya's Shali district on Monday.

In addition, two Kalashnikov assault rifles were seized from a cache, which was found in woods in Grozny.
