Militant killed in Chechnya (Part 2)

MOSCOW/GROZNY/MAKHACHKALA. Jan 16 (Interfax-AVN) - A resident of the village of Berezka, who was put on the federal wanted list for committing serious crimes, was killed in the Grozny's Staropromyslovsky district in an operation to apprehend him after he offered armed resistance, law enforcement agencies told Interfax -AVN on Wednesday.

Two unemployed people, who confessed that they were involved in preparing acts of sabotage and terror against federal forces as members of the Gapayev's illegal armed group in 2002, were detained in the Chechen town of Argun on Tuesday.

In particular, the detainees attested that they were involved in preparing an explosion on a road from Argun to Shali, when a convoy of federal troops was moving along it in the autumn of 2002, thanks to prompt actions the explosive device was defused then, the Chechen Interior Ministry told Interfax on Wednesday.

Unknown gunmen fired on a convoy of police vehicles near the village of Chishki in the Chechnya's Grozny district on Tuesday, Chechen law enforcement agencies told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.

Two police officers were wounded in the attack.

Magomed Ismailov, the director of municipal unitary enterprise Makhachkalatrans, was killed in Makhachkala, Dagestan on Wednesday morning, the city's Leninsky district police department told Interfax.

Investigators have been working at the scene.
