Over 160 militants killed in North Caucasus in 2007 – FSB

MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Over 160 militants were killed in the North Caucasus in 2007, Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) head Nikolai Patrushev told a meeting of the National Antiterrorist Committee on Tuesday.

"The general level of the terrorist threat has continued to recede. We managed to foil planned terrorist attacks this year. No terrorist attack took place in the country and this is good," Patrushev said.

"The activity of 164 members of illegal armed groups was stopped in antiterrorist and investigative operations in 2007. A total of 375 militants and their accomplices were detained. A total of 174 militants surrendered," Patrushev said.
