VLADIVOSTOK. March 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The Typhoon 2008 operation has started in the Maritime Territory against pollock poaching in the seas of the Far East.
"The operation was launched by the Border Guard Directorate of the Russian Federal Security Service in the Maritime Territory to defend economic and other legal interests of Russia in preservation and use of its water biological resources, and prevent poaching," Rear Admiral Mikhail Galochkin, the chief of the Coast Guard Service of the directorate, told journalists on Wednesday, noting that the operation started on March 10 and will last until April 25 and aside from Maritime Territory's border guards will involve those from Sakhalin and Kamchatka, and also law enforcement units of the whole Far East.
"As many as 300 trawlers, 15 float bases and 30 transport vessels will be authorized to fish Pollock this year," he said.
