MOSCOW. April 7 (Interfax) - The Russian Air Force is capable of neutralizing any air or space threat, Air Force Commander Col.Gen. Alexander Zelin has said.
"Today the Air Force is generally 100% supplied with aircraft and helicopters giving it the capability to tackle tasks in peaceful times and in armed conflicts of various degree and scale," a text of Zelin's speech circulated in Moscow on Friday says.
The capability of the Air Force to carry out deterrence tasks and if need be neutralize any aerospace threat stems from its special geopolitical role, he said.
He said strategic aviation armed with Tupolev Tu-95MS and Tu-160 missile carriers, Tu-22M3 strategic bombers and Ilyushin Il-78 tanker aircraft makes the main contribution to the task of global deterrence.
