MOSCOW. April 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski is due to visit Moscow for missile defense consultations with his Russian counterpart Sergei Kislyak.
"The second round of Russian-Polish missile defense consultations will take place in Moscow on Tuesday," a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry told Interfax.
The first round was held in Warsaw early this year. The sides discussed U.S. plans to deploy missile defense elements in Europe.
Meanwhile, head of the Polish premier's office Slawomir Nowak said that NATO's wish to create a comprehensive missile defense system in Europe, which was stated at the recent summit in Bucharest, was much more important to Poland than U.S. plans.
"In fact, this system [NATO missile defense] is much more important than the American missile shield. We want and must have a missile defense system of our own, and it should be compatible with NATO's," he said.
"Thus, we expect the NATO system and the U.S. ABM plans. In that case, we will have a global system for the suppression of long-range missiles," Nowak said.
