GROZNY. April 14 (Interfax) - A man suspected of active membership of illegal armed units has been detained in Chechnya, and weapons have been seized from him, a Chechen Interior Ministry source told Interfax on Saturday.
"An active member of illegal armed units has been detained in a search operation in Chiri-Yurt. A Makarov pistol with ammunition was found and seized from him during his search," the source said.
The man also showed a cache for storing weapons to police operatives. "When this information was being checked, a 50-liter container buried underground in a house's yard in the village of Avtury in the Shali district was found. It contained two Kalashnikov assault rifles, 10 magazines, three improvised grenades, three Kenwood radio transmitters, and ammunition," it said.
Police also found a dugout containing a hand antitank grenade launcher, an antitank mine, and three grenades southwest of the village of Ishkhoi-Yurt in the Gudermes district. Police are looking for the people who set up this dugout, the Interior Ministry source said.
