MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - Turbo-generator No.1 of the first power-generating unit at the Kursk nuclear power plant was again shut down by the protection system after a defect was discovered. The reactor's capacity was lowered to 50%, the station's information center reported.
The defect is being examined, and the reactor will be switched on following an investigation and preventative operations.
A drop in the reactor's capacity was no hazard either to the station, or the environment. No violations of safety regulations were reported.
Power Generating Unit 4 is in operation and Nos. 2 and 3 are under scheduled repairs.
Radiation levels are normal at and outside the station.
Earlier reports said that Power Generating Unit 1 was shut down in an emergency mode on April 6 after synchronization was lost between Turbo-Generator 1 and the power supply system, and the technological protection system was activated. The unit was re-launched three days later.
