MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - The automated safety system again disconnected the first turbo-generator of the Kursk nuclear power plant's first unit on Sunday because of a defect. The unit's output fell 50%, the power plant's information center said.
A defective bolt disrupted electricity flow and disconnected the generator, the information center's Alexander Serebryannikov told Interfax.
The turbo-generator will be back on line after repairs and tests.
The reduced output of the unit did not endanger the nuclear power plant and the surrounding area. The Kursk NPP is running safely.
The fourth unit is working, while the second and third units are under planned repairs.
Radiation is normal inside and outside the power plant's premises.
The first unit was disconnected on April 6 because of lack of synchronization between the first turbo-generator and the power network. The unit resumed operation three days later.
