VORONEZH. April 14 (Interfax) - The Voronezh Levoberezhny District Court has convicted two police officers for beating and insulting suspects, senior assistant of the regional prosecutor Mikhail Usov told Interfax on Monday.
Usov said the two Levoberezhny district police inspectors, 24-year-old Alexander Adamchik and 25-year-old Vitaly Cherkizov, were sentenced to three and a half years and two years and seven months in prison, respectively. Their accomplice, Alexander Dorofeyev, was sentenced to two years and seven months.
The policemen arrested two citizens near the Kirov Cultural Center in November 2006 on suspicion of petty hooliganism. The suspects were brought to the police precinct and forced to take off their clothes. The policemen and Dorofeyev beat the detainees with their Billy clubs, resulting in the suspects being taken to hospital.
"There was a similar attack on another detainee in the same month," Usov said.
