MOSCOW. April 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The first serial production helicopter engines in Russia will begin in 2010, Deputy Industry and Energy Minister Denis Manturov told the press on Tuesday.
"The first serial production of helicopter engines will begin at a Russian plant in 2010," Manturov said at the opening of an international exhibition of engines dubbed Engines-2008.
The engines for Russia-made helicopters are currently manufactured in Ukraine at the Motor Sych plant.
The decision to launch serial production of helicopter engines in Russia has no political overtones, Manturov said.
"The amount of orders for helicopters exceeds the capabilities of Motor Sych. We think it will make sense to launch additional engine production in Russia," he said.
