Aviation, shipbuilding industries cut their output – ministry

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian aviation and shipbuilding industries reduced production in January-March 2008, the Industry and Energy Ministry said on Thursday.

The overall output of the defense industry enlarged, with the exception of aviation and shipbuilding industries. Their production dropped by 3.5% and 11.7% respectively.

The defense industry production stood at 102.2% of the first quarter of the previous year. The output of civilian products increased by 12.8%, the ministry said.

"All in all, civilian products amounted to 47.1% of the total produce of the defense industry," the ministry said.

The highest growth was reported from the rocket industry (129.1%) and the radio-electronic industry (117.9%).

The output of civilian products grew in all defense industry sectors, the ministry said.

The civilian output of the aviation industry enlarged by 109.1%. Most of the civilian products were supplied to the domestic market.
