Progress plant to build first Ka-62 helicopter in 2009

VLADIVOSTOK. April 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The Progress aviation plant based in the town of Arsenyev in the Primorye territory will make the first civilian multifunctional cargo and passenger helicopter Kamov Ka-62 in the first quarter of 2009, a plant source told Interfax.

The production of small batches of the new helicopter will start in 2021, while the production of 30-40 helicopters per year will begin in 2014.

The Ka-62 was designed on the basis of a cargo helicopter capable of carrying 2,500 kilograms on the exterior suspender or 14-16 passengers. There will be medical and rescue modifications made to the new chopper.
