KALININGRAD. April 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The Kaliningrad customs office has launched nine criminal cases over the evasion of more than 10 million rubles in customs fees charged from businesses or individuals, customs office's spokeswoman Irina Artyomova told Interfax on Thursday.
"Customs officers admitted a growing number of cases when industrial vehicles such as tractor units, heavy-duty trucks, dump trucks, etc., are being smuggled to the Kaliningrad region. Customs revealed a criminal scheme whereby customs fees were not paid on the import of expensive vehicles from abroad," Artyomova said.
"This scheme was based on the illegal receipt by traders of the preferences granted by the federal law regarding the special economic zone and the Kaliningrad region," she said.
