SCO plans to set up strategic research center in Siberia

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - The Shanghai Cooperation organization plans to set up a strategic research center at the Siberian Federal University.

A plan has been developed for the center's activities, the Siberian Federal University's rector, Yevgeny Vaganov, told a joint meeting of the Siberian and Southern federal universities' boards of trustees chaired by President-elect Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow on Thursday.

"We have signed serious agreements and developed programs jointly with the best educational and science centers - the Moscow Foreign Relations Institute MGIMO and the Higher School of Economics," Yevgeny Vaganov said.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization comprises China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Mongolia, Iran, India and Pakistan have observer status.
