Georgia’s NATO prospects depend on how it holds parliamentary elections – PACE member

TBILISI. April 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Granting NATO's Membership Action Plan to Georgia depends on how that country holds parliamentary elections on May 21, Matyas Eorsi, a member of the PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) Monitoring Committee, said at a news briefing on Friday.

Georgia was told at the NATO summit in Bucharest that it could be granted MAP if it held the upcoming parliamentary elections better than the presidential ones, he said.

Eorsi also suggested that those who question the legitimacy of the parliamentary elections question Georgia's future as well.

Talking about the current situation in Georgia, Eorsi noted that there are no extreme tensions in domestic political affairs but there is great mistrust between the groups running in the elections, which determines the people's mistrust in the elections, and this cannot be good for anyone.

Eorsi called on all political forces, both pro-governmental and opposition ones, to do all they can to improve confidence in the elections.
