MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - Russia needs a national anti-corruption plan, President Dmitry Medvedev said at a Monday conference in the Kremlin.
"Corruption in this country is still very deep. In fact, we need a national anti-corruption plan," he said.
"We need a whole set of measures rather than targeted operations," the president said.
There are three ways of combating corruption in Russia, he said. Firstly, "it is necessary to modernize our laws," he said. Secondly, it is necessary to suppress corruption in economic and social spheres and encourage 'an anti-corruption lifestyle.' Thirdly, it is necessary to give legal education to citizens and increase their public awareness.
"We must close the loopholes in our laws. We must modernize our laws. We must hold an all-inclusive policy," Medvedev said.
A bill on the suppression of corruption has been drafted and will soon be discussed, he said.
