Russian peacekeepers, U.N. mission jointly probe incident in Zugdidi district

SUKHUMI. May 22 (Interfax-AVN) - A bus with passengers came under fire at about 2 p.m. Moscow time in the village of Khurcha, Zugdidi district of Georgia, 500 meters away from an observation post of Russian peacekeeping forces, commander of the CIS Joint Peacekeeping Force in the Georgian-Abkhaz Conflict Zone Alexander Diordiyev told Interfax-AVN.

"A reserve group of peacekeepers and heads of the southern and northern security zones arrived at the scene and took every measure to stabilize the situation. Presently the situation there is calm," he said.

He said representatives of the U.N. observer mission also arrived at the scene.

"The peacekeeping force and U.N. military observers will conduct a joint investigation into the circumstances of the attack," Diordiyev said.
