MOSCOW. May 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry is against a sweeping ban of cluster munitions, Lt. Gen. Yevgeny Buzhinsky, the chief of the Russian Defense Ministry's international cooperation department, told journalists on Tuesday.
"We are against a complete ban of cluster munitions just as we were against the complete ban of antipersonnel mines," Buzhinsky said.
The Russian Defense Ministry calls for phased restrictions of certain types of munitions, he said.
"We are not extremists when it comes to destroying a whole class of weapons," the general said.
The Russian Defense Ministry is against the "radical measures" in respect to several types of weapons and munitions being pushed on the international arena by countries that, as it is, do not possess such weapons.
