Chechen residents draw envoy’s attention to missing people problem

GROZNY. May 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The administration and residents of Chechnya are asking Vladimir Ustinov, a presidential envoy in the republic, to create an interdepartmental commission on issues relating to the search of missing and abducted citizens.

This issue was raised at practically all of Ustinov's meetings with the people of Chechnya during his three day trip to Chechnya.

Dukuvakha Abdurakhmanov, chairman of the National Assembly of the Chechen parliament, told Ustinov at a meeting with residents of the western regions of Chechnya in Achkhoi-Martan that "an interdepartmental commission given special powers by the president could be much more useful than the efforts that are currently being made by looking for missing and abducted citizens."

Ustinov assured the meeting participants that "the creation of such a commission will be discussed at a high level."

The Chechen parliament and the human rights ombudsman in the republic have previously asked the federal authorities to create such a commission.
