BARNAUL. May 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Officers of the Altai department of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) have carried out an operation to thwart a drug smuggling route from Central Asia to Russia.
"The final phase of the operation was the detention of a foreign national, who was a key link in the chain of illegal and well disguised deliveries of heroin and other drugs to Russia, by officers of the Altai department of the FSB in the town of Rubtsovsk," the FSB department said in a statement.
"The interaction of the Russian FSB, the Kazakh National Security Committee and the FSB department in Altai allowed a transborder drug route to be closed and prevented the delivery of 15 kilograms of heroin," the statement says.
