MOSCOW. June 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has appointed former Russian ambassador to the United States Yury Ushakov deputy head of the Cabinet office, the Cabinet press service reported on Monday.
Earlier on Monday the Kremlin press service reported that Dmitry Medvedev dismissed Ushakov from his duties as Russian ambassador to the United States and permanent observer at the Organization of American States in Washington due to a different appointment.
According to the Kommersant daily newspaper, Ushakov will be responsible for the international activities of the Russian government.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak may replace him as Russian ambassador in Washington. "Current Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak, who oversees the American direction and disarmament issues at the ministry is being considered as one of the candidates to the post," a ministry source told Interfax.
Other candidates are also being considered, the source said.
