Sakhalin trawler detained for fishing violations in Okhotsk Sea

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. July 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Kamchatka coast guards have detained a fishing boat in the Ohotsk Sea, which according to the documents presented was to have been at a Japanese port at the time of the inspection.

The officers of the State Maritime Inspection discovered that the ship was reconfigured to carry live crabs, while did not have any documents entitling it to catch crab. Several crabs and crab joint were found in ship's holds.

These and other facts were qualified as violations of the Russian environmental laws and fishing regulations. A case was opened against the ship skipper, and the trawler was arrested and escorted to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky for further investigation.
