SUKHUMI. July 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The border between Georgia and Abkhazia will be temporarily closed, Abkhaz President Sergei Bagapsh told journalists in Sukhumi.
"We will see how the events unfold, and if the situation stabilizes, an appropriate decision will be made," he said.
There are no crowds on the Abkhaz side of the border willing to go to Georgia, Abkhaz presidential envoy to the Gali district Ruslan Kishmariya told Interfax-AVN.
"There are some people on the other side of the Inguri River who want to go to Abkhazia. If they are residents of the Gali district or carry a special pass, they will be allowed to enter," he said.
"The border will remained partially closed for three days. Once all Gali district residents who went to Georgia earlier on business have returned into Abkhazia, the border will be shut from both sides," Kishmariya said.
"The ban on traffic through the Georgian-Abkhaz border does not apply to international organizations' employees, peacekeepers and their transport vehicles," Kishmariya said.
