TBILISI. July 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Abkhazia's decision to close the border with Georgia is a flagrant violation of the 1994 Moscow ceasefire agreement in the conflict zone, which obliges the parties not to restrict the movement of civilians, the Georgian parliament said.
"We demand an answer from the so-called Russian peacekeepers, as to why they have allowed the administrative border in the Gali district to be closed, thus grossly violating their mandate yet again," Shota Malashkhia, the chairman of the provisional parliamentary commission for the restoration of Georgia's territorial integrity, told journalists on Tuesday.
"Indicatively, whereas the separatists seal the administrative border on Russia's side, the Georgian state border remains fully open for Russian citizens," he said.
Georgia will urge the UN to react on violations of Georgian citizens' rights in Abkhazia, Malashkhia said.
Abkhazia closed the border with Georgia on July 1 in the wake of bombings in Sukhumi and Gagry on June 29 and 30. Breakaway Abkhazia says Georgian special services were behind the attacks.
