S. Ossetia accuses Georgia of abducting 14-year-old boy

MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The government of the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia has accused Georgian security services of abducting a 14-year-old South Ossetian boy but has said the purpose of the alleged abduction "is so far unclear."

"According to a report by the Interior Ministry of the Republic of South Ossetia, Georgian special services were involved in the abduction of Andrei Petrochenko, a 14-year-old resident of the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinval [Ossetian name for Tskhinvali], whose disappearance was reported to the Tskhinval [police authority] by his mother," the South Ossetian Information and Press Committee said in a report posted on its web site.

Petrochenko "is being held by one of the Georgian security structures, presumably the Ministry of State Security, but the purpose of this is so far unclear," the Committee said.
