Militants held in Chechnya

GROZNY. July 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Five members of illegal armed groups have been detained in Chechnya over the past 24 hours, Nikolai Varavin, spokesman for Chechnya's Operations Headquarters, told Interfax n Tuesday.

"Officers of the provisional task group of the Russian Interior Ministry, as well as police officers, detained five militants. In particular, a Chechen resident who fought in a gang led by Arbi Barayev was detained in the Zavodskoi district of Grozny," Varavin said.

"One of the [militants] detained in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny was a member of Ruslan Gelyev armed group, who was killed in a special operation four years ago," he said.
