SINGAPORE. July 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will be guided by the need for a Sudanese settlement progress in its decision whether or not to support the revocation of the International Criminal Court Prosecutor's order to arrest the Sudanese president, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Singapore on Thursday.
"According to the court statute, the UN Security Council may suspend the validity of the court prosecutor's order. A proposal to that effect has been made to the Security Council, and we are considering it. We will be guided with the need to ensure progress in the Sudanese settlement process, including that in South Sudan and Darfur," Lavrov said.
The foreign minister compared the International Criminal Court situation with that of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.
"I am positive that justice is necessary, especially in the case of persons accused of serious crimes against humanity," Lavrov said.
"At the same time, we must not forget about no less important things, including stability of regions - the Balkans, Africa and so on," he said
"I believe it would be right to hold a policy, which will not give ultimatums and black-and-white interpretations of human rights and humanitarian issues juxtaposed to peacekeeping and stability," Lavrov said.
"The majority of the UN Security Council members tend to support this idea," he said.
