CHITA. July 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The Vostok (East)-2008 strategic command-post exercise has continued in Russia's eastern regions, the exercise's press center told Interfax on Monday.
The organization of territorial and civil defense and troops' management during the liquidation of armed and terrorist groups is now being drilled. Over 8,000 soldiers and more than 650 units of equipment are involved in the exercise," the press service said.
The functioning of the single system of rear and technical provision of the Armed Forces and other Russian military units and agencies is being drilled as well, it said.
"A large range of possible adequate measures to ensure the security of transporting hydrocarbons through eastern regions, the prevention of terrorist attacks against civil vessels, as well as important facilities is being looked into," it said.
The Vostok-2008 exercise is taking place on July 26 - August 1 and is commanded by Chief of the Russian General Staff Gen. Nikolai Makarov.
