KYIV. Aug 5 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said it is concerned by a number of armed incidents in South Ossetia and that the recent events prove the inefficiency of the current peacekeeping mechanism.
"Such an development of events proves the inefficiency of the peacekeeping mechanism operating in this region," the ministry said in a statement released on Tuesday.
Kyiv has urged the conflicting parties to demonstrate restraint, to be aware of their responsibility for the future of the region and to resume direct talks without any pre-conditions as a necessary step towards de-escalating the situation.
"Ukraine is consistently calling for the conflict to be resolved solely by peaceful methods, based on Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty," the Foreign Ministry said.
