Moscow denies Sarkozy's warnings

MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has denied allegations that France's President Nicolas Sarkozy warned Moscow about serious consequences that the situation in Georgia might have for Russian-EU relations.

A corresponding statement was circulated Monday, following a press release published by the French side after the August 17 telephone talk between Sarkozy and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

"As for the press release published by the French side, which says that the French president warned Medvedev about the 'heavy consequences' for relations between Russia and the European Union, this theme was not brought up at all during the telephone conversation between the two presidents," the ministry said.

"Sarkozy mentioned the European Union only once, when he said that he would like to begin talks on Russia-EU relations and that there should be no differences between Russia and France because of some extremists," it said.
