MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian peacekeepers will control the situation in the Georgian port city of Poti in line with the six-principle agreement, said Col. Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn, a deputy chief of staff of the Russian armed forces.
"In line with the Medvedev-Sarkozy six-principle agreement, Russian peacekeepers will control the situation in Poti and other populated areas by patrolling them," Nogovitsyn told journalists in Moscow on Saturday.
Georgian peacekeepers were supposed to be deployed in the southern part of Poti, but none of them are there now, and therefore Russian peacekeepers will keep that part of the city and the outskirts under control, he said.
"This complies with all of our agreements," Nogovitsyn said.
