"Today, a group of Georgian policemen illegally entered the South Ossetian village of Mugut in the Znauri district. They were arrested," he said.
The policemen are absolutely safe. No measures have been applied to them, Mindzayev said.
Talks with the Georgian side about the policemen's return are to begin shortly, the minister said.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the South Ossetian Security Council Anatoly Barankevich has told Interfax that South Ossetian military units in the Znauri and Leninogorsk districts are being reinforced.
"We are massing our formations in the Znauri and Leninogorsk districts in response to illegal actions by the Georgian police," he said, adding that reinforcements consisted of South Ossetian servicemen only.
At the same time, Barankevich said he believes an armed confrontation in the area is unlikely.
